Hemet Emblem Krazy Auction

The Hemet-Beaumont Emblem Club #162 is hosting their Krazy Auction from noon to 1 p.m. March 3. It will be a luncheon and auction at a donation price of $12.

The event will be held at Golden Era Golf Course Club House located at 19871 Gilman Springs Road in San Jacinto.

 

Railroad club running trains

The Hemet-San Jacinto Railroad Club will be running trains at Highland Palms Mobile Home Park Clubhouse from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Feb. 25 and Feb. 26. The show will be open to the public and there is no admission charge.

All residents of Highland Palms and others interested in seeing our scale model trains in operation are invited.

Genealogy classes at history center

Genealogy classes are being offered every Thursday at the Hemet Family History Center from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

The next two classes in Feb. are entitled "The Research Process" and "Migration Patterns."

The classes are taught by Gene Weston Cheney who is the director at the Hemet Family History Center. "How to Find Your Ancestors" is the general subject of all classes. Classes will continue through May. For more information, call 658-8104.

 

Valley Beautiful water conservation

Valley Beautiful invites all gardeners to beautify the San Jacinto Valley through water conservation.

The group's objective is to promote water-wise landscapes for homes and businesses with demonstration gardens and educational programs, as well as working with local government agencies to influence policies and legislation.

Regular meetings are on the third Monday of each month. The next meeting will be on Feb. 20 at 7 p.m. at the Unitarian-Universalist Fellowship located at 796 E. Main St. in San Jacinto.

Meetings are always open to the public, free of charge, and often feature speakers or demonstrations. For more information, call 658-7319

 

Senior Computer Club meetings

The Hemet Senior Computer Club meets the third Monday of each month from 10 a.m. to Noon at the Valle Vista Senior Center at 43935 E. Acacia Street.

Dues are $12 per year for singles and $18 for couples.

Salvation Army seeks donations

The Salvation Army of Hemet is in need of donations of food and diapers. Families who need assistance are up while donations are lower than ever.

Hemet District collecting used shoes

Hemet Unified School District's S.A.F.E After School Program has partnered with Green Sneakers of Southern California to earn money for four high school scholarships. During this fundraiser, HUSD schools will be holding a used tennis shoe drive. The Green Sneakers fundraiser has started and will continue through Feb. 17.

S.A.F.E. will earn $1 for each pair of sneakers that are collected and those funds will be placed into scholarships for one current high school senior at each high school in the district. Donations of sneakers can be made by dropping them off in the collection bin at a local school. You may also donate at Valley Wide Recreation and Park District in San Jacinto, Valle Vista Community Center, and at Hemet and San Jacinto PAL facilities. The Widowed Person's Association of California will host the following event in February:

- Feb. 22 9 a.m. Date festival in Indio

- Feb. 26: 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Card N' Games at Joy's house

- Feb. 28 12:20 p.m. Lunch at El Patron

 

San Jacinto Cadet named to Dean's List

Cadet Christopher J. Zeller of San Jacinto has been named to the Dean's List at The Citadel, The Military College of South Carolina, for academic achievement during the fall 2011 semester.

Zeller is seeking a bachelor's degree in history.

Dean's List recognition is given to cadets and active duty military students whose grade point average is 3.2 or higher with no grade below a C for the previous semester's work.
