Charities and businesses are welcome to volunteer now to be involved with the next Soboba Golf Classic that has brought sports action and thousands of spectators to The Country Club at Soboba Springs for the past three years.
The Nationwide Tour event will return to San Jacinto April 2 through 8 of this year. Many special family event are planned as the final day of play will be on Easter Sunday.
The cities of Hemet and San Jacinto have already offered their support for the event which will be in its final year of a four-year contract with the tour.
The goal of any PGA TOUR is to cover the cost of the tournament so that any additional proceeds can be donated to charity. Though the Soboba Golf Classic has made a substantial charitable contribution during its first three years, that money has been generated primarily through the Tickets Fore Charity program and not from the tournament itself. Sponsorship sales of events is what will lead to major charitable contributions.
"As an avid golfer (volunteering) means being close to the professional golf world and participating in making something positive take place in a smooth and organized manner," Tom Garnella, of Hemet, said. He and Laura Froehlich were chosen as Volunteers of the Week at this year's tournament.
There are a variety of levels of sponsorship available for companies to reach the community – from mom-and- pop operations to big corporations.
Sponsoring an appreciation day is available for $1,500. Recognition themes include U.S. Armed Forces, Senior Citizens, Community and Cancer Awareness. Information, 951-654-4300 ext. 5200, www.sobobaclassic.net.
